The COVID-19 virus has revealed that there are a very large number of eggs in the one Chinese basket.
While welcoming its increased presence on the world stage it has shown the world’s weaknesses in how to deal with a large scale disruptive event.
A number of sporting events were cancelled and there didn’t seem to be much of a plan B from the sporting bodies effected. Similarly countries dependent on China’s economic input are all vulnerable from the virus even if they don’t record a single fatality.
The Economist looked at the effectiveness of democracies in dealing with health crises suggesting that democracies tend to do better.
What ever the case of effectiveness in dealing with issues it is becoming increasingly apparent that plan Bs need to be formulated to reducing the dependency of one country.
