The Australian government is looking into regulate online media aggregators to strike commercial deals to pay media companies for their news content.

With so many of these disputes popping up, it seems inevitable that governments will be doing more to pull back the reins of the big tech companies. Whether that will be good regulation and good for its users remains to be seen.

As the internet takes its part in all aspects of life, governments are going to increasingly regulate the internet. The balkanisation of the internet is likely. Governments are going to further impose laws on online activity in the same way they regulate real world activity within their own borders.
