Victoria has been awarded the 2026 Commonwealth Games – a type of mini-Olympics for those who don’t hold too many grudges for being part of the British Empire.

The difference this time is that an entire state has been award the games rather than just a city.

This may be a portent for future large sporting events as they have been increasingly more expensive.

Gaining the Olympics is no longer the air leaping achievement it once was and so a more distributed hosting model looks like a more sustainable hosting model.
