Best of, and other compilation albums have long been a low-cost, revenue earner for music companies, but they still require promotion budgets and some music companies may baulk at that. So enter the playlist.
Welsh rockers, Manic Street Preachers have recently released the playlist, Sleep Next To Plastic. A compendium of the cover versions the band has done over the years.
While it’s a worthy collection, it is clear that there has been the barest of effort to release the playlist. There’s not even artwork beyond a pic that looks like it was just randomly selected from off the cutting room floor.
The whole package could have been put together in an afternoon by an intern.
