There’s been some criticism that the latest caped crusader film The Batman is lacking in characterisation.

Maybe the film does, maybe it doesn’t, but it raises the issue of how much characterisation is needed in a film of such deep lore and knowledge of the character.

The viewer already knows so much about the lead, that the film maker risks criticisms of repetition.

So instead the character can just be taken as read and instead go into the broader theme of the film where a character of good intentions can be appropriated by malicious characters who claim they are doing the same thing.
